Metal Detecting Australian Tropical Beach: Garrett Infinium LS Test Hunt.

Our first hunt with our new Garrett Infinium LS Pulse Induction Detector. We’re not really beach hunters and we actually purchased the detector for prospecting, but as part of our “Operator Training” we headed to a local beach to put the Infinium through its paces. The Infinium is fully waterproofed to a depth of 200 feet, but we’re not diving on any shipwrecks this trip. Thanks for watching and happy hunting.

  1. Thanks for commenting Mr Booyeah – sorry for the delayed reply – Fraser Island sounds the deal with all the holiday traffic and those freshwater lakes inland would be a treasure trove of jewellery! HH mate! Warren.

  2. Thanks for commenting Tex, your Grandfather may have been in the US Army 32nd Division, which was training around Brisbane before deploying to New Guinea – I have a video hunt coming up soon on the 32nd Division’s camp area. All the best mate and HH! Warren.

  3. I just watched “The Thin Red Line” on Blu-Ray a couple months back. Interesting to know that’s where they filmed some of it.

My grandfather was with the US Army somewhere up near Brisbane during the war. I think he helped with the defense of New Guinea, and MAYBE Guadalcanal, but not entirely sure. Unfortunately he’s been gone since just after 9/11 so I can’t ask him.

  4. cool vid , nice beaches notice ya in qld , if ya ever go over to fraser island try lake mckenzie . Waters so cold there all the tourists lose there bling when there fingers shrink in the cold , worked there a few years ago on the island and remember the day a tourist lost her engagement ring , we organized a local . to come to the island with his detector to look for it . after 2 hrs he found it along with a small treasure trove of other jewellery 13 pieces in all .. gl in ya searches

  5. lololololol……….mr nq, therein lies thr problem, too many choices. i actually like the fisher f5 but its not going to cut the mustad. i hate the idea of going through a menu (x-terra range). i much perfer dials for easy access.

as for my movie making, fisrt things first, buy a detector, find something worth recording and then upload.

i bet you drive mrs nq nuts. lololololo i could just imagine you annoying the shit out of her. would make me laugh though.

  6. G’day Johnny, hope to see your detecting movies soon mate – you can get all the big brands at most detecting shops in Australia – if not, we have purchased on line from the US, warranty still applies but it is return to the US for service. We have 6 detectors, depends if you are intending to beach hunt, goldfields, or coins and relics in parks – plenty of choices out there to fit most budgets. Garrett and Minelab make great machines easily purchased in Australia. HH mate!

  7. mr nqexplorer,

youre a funny old bugger (no offence). what i notice about your clips compared to others is that you go into the history of the places you detect which is refreshing and appreciated.

however, it still doesnt make my decision in a purchase any easier! im just about to get into detecting and have watched hundreds of clips, read hundreds of reviews and im still at a loss. sadly, in australia (i live in melbourne) our choice of detectors is rather limited.

  8. Finally worked out that my experience wasn’t normal. Garret Australia are replacing my faulty dd coil under warranty.. Excellent service. I’ve also bought a 8inch mono which is beautifully quiet.. Been in the gold fields and found a few relics but no gold yet

  10. Sorry for the delayed response mate – we have only taken the Infinium to the goldfields once as yet, on that occasion we actually found gold with the AT Pro! Going back this year for a week or so, with both detectors. Happy prospecting mate!

  12. Thanks for watching K1ng401, havent had any real problems with false signals but I have noticed the following: 1. If your ground balance is slightly ‘out’, you will get false ‘Hi-Lo’ tones at the end of each swing. 2. Duct tape the coil cable to the lower stem (allowing for coil swivel), so that the cable isn’t loose. Often if you bump rocks/weeds/bushes it will false if the cable is slightly ‘loose’. Hope this helps mate. HH.

  16. tried my infinium at the beach for the first time yesterday. I’m 60 cents richer! I get false signals if I bump the sand. Is that normal? Also in the bush I’m getting signals from small clumps of spinifex. Did you find this?

  19. Thanks for watching Mr T, sorry but no way I’m in the class of Iroc, a true legend LOL. Really happy with the Infinium, going out to the goldfields this month so hope there are some interesting finds out there (preferably large and yellow in colour LOL). Thanks for watching mate and HH.

  23. Nice vid. NQ! I thought you were going to show-up Iroc and find a whole bunch of 5c pieces, but all the same, nice showing us how the infinium works on a FNQ beach! I used to live at Cairns before, so I know most of the beaches out your way. I’m looking forward to seeing how you go with the Infinium in the Gold Fields. Should be another great experience! GL and HH!!

  26. Thanks for watching Crampo, got the new Mono coil for the Infinium last week, so she’s off to the goldfields soon. The Mono should be more sensitive to the tiny nuggets, and won’t miss the big ones, just have to swing across them LOL. Happy prospecting mate.

  33. Thanks RobSue, we enjoyed the day at the beach even though we didn’t find much – “out of out comfort zone” for sure. Yep love that early Fleetwood Mac too. Thanks for watching and HH.

  37. Another great video NQ. Informative, instructional and in a different comfort zone. Great choice of music. When I was 14, me and my mate were listening to early Fleetwood Mac and we taught ourselves to play “Jigsaw Puzzle Blues”.

  40. Hi Ringo, the goldfields we usually detect on are around 5 hours drive from home, so not really a weekend trip. We are going out there for a week next month and hope to do a few videos. We purchased the Infinium just for prospecting so hope to give it plenty of use out there. Thanks for watching and commenting mate, Happy Hunting.

  44. Thanks for watching ED, jackhammer is a good idea. Otherwise you will see me uploading a 2 hour video just digging a single hole (only to find a coke can LOL). HH mate, love those ‘new’ old spots where you are turning up the goodies. HH mate.

  48. Thanks for watching and commenting, yep really looking forward to getting the Infinium out into the bush and giving it a run, as I said, dont mind digging big holes if the reward at the bottom is just as big (such as a coke can LOL). HH mate.

  52. Congrats on the new toy NQ! That sucker goes deep! Get yourself a jack hammer for the gold fields if your going to dig 20″ or more. E.D

  53. There you are, you are a professional after all. Who else can praise the virtues of a coke can, bottle tops and a ring pull. Takes guts! Bet the Garrett does the business for you when you turn to hunting for gold. Of course, don’t forget to video the event. Lovely beach and enjoyed your offering this time round. Good hunting mate 😀

  59. I suggest starting with a blunt stick..then when confident and with permission from Mrs NQ – go to the sharp stick. P.S. That Coke can is a beaut – to find one in that condition is amazing – well done. I realise now that Mrs NQ was heading off toward the Coconut Plantation – did you forget to pack the lunch? The “stingers” at the beach – very bad. My son [14 at the time] got stung badly near Perth 2 years ago – hospital case. Please do another “demo” video on the Infinium. Cheers HH

Thanks Yulelah, yep very happy with the depth on the can, didnt expect any great finds at this quiet beach but if you dig every target, you never know mate. HH and best of luck.

  67. [..YouTube..] @hellsmetaldetecting
Thanks for watching, and you are right, you can get ‘Stinger Proof suits’ for summer swimming, the Box Jelly fish are usually in our waters from around October to March or April (right when it is hottest and you want a swim). Look forward to your next live hunt. Best of luck and HH.

  68. [..YouTube..] @MichaelSwan66
Thanks for watching Michael, yeah the Infinium is great, I havent got the Diving headphones, but just for a bit of fun would be great to do a bit of shallow water snorkelling with the detector. Really enjoyed your beach hunts this summer mate, hopefully you will get a few more in yet. HH and best of luck.

  69. [..YouTube..] @IrocOn2
Thanks for watching Iroc. I have a new respect for beach hunters – and you get sand in everything LOL. My timing was hopeless, high tide, and the ongoing ineptitude meant that the Propointer was left at home. Im going with your sharp stick suggestion, as they are readily available in the bush. HH mate.

  70. [..YouTube..] @icollectstuffdude
Thanks for watching, yep I did a lot of research on the new buy and the Infinium is hard to pass up, just on its versatility alone. You can get it wet! And for the price its a lot of ‘bang for the buck’. HH mate.

  71. [..YouTube..] @farenheit1100
Thanks for watching Hugh, unfortunately my old scratched and battered camera doesnt do the place justice, I cant zoom while Im recording either. Should have purchased a new camera but bought a detector instead LOL. May be up to Santa to bring me a new camera. HH mate.

  72. Awesome Video Warren! Looks like the new machine is going to be a great addition to your arsenal of detectors! Look forward to the next video.

  73. [..YouTube..] Hey I can’t wait for the gold field trip video! I hope you find your gold strike! Great video and nice new machine! I picked up a Siebens that is really a poorly made metal detector but it works despite the poor design. I don’t use it much, but your video reminded me of it and it may be useful in an upcoming hunt here! I thank you sir!

  74. [..YouTube..] Congratulations with your new detector!! Hum, if you get some waders, with thick rubber boots you may enter the water without risk of manevil fishes? I may be wrong? Nice place you got there! 😀 HH

  75. [..YouTube..] I didn’t know the infinium was water proof to 200 feet ,neat :)Thanks for the shout out 🙂 but i’m not that great at the beach hunts i just get lucky every now and then 🙂
now that summers pretty much over here, the beach hunts are pretty quite & targets are few & far between but it’s always fun trying 🙂 hope you guys have a great weekend:) great video and HH!

  76. [..YouTube..] Hi NQ – I was hoping you might do this – a “try out” video with your new toy – and you did. Thanks for this – I wasn’t expecting a beach video though – even better. I was however – surprised you weren’t in your Speedo’s – far more appropriate attire – and Mrs NQ’s cameo – I can see a Logie nomination coming. Always love the narration – information and comments – and thanks for the kind words too. I have a new respect for Park & Bush detecting and still have a lot to learn. Well done. GL & HH

  77. [..YouTube..] Bloody great vid mate very informative. Geez you looked all dressed up and shnazzy with those 3 quater jeans and shirt…love the missus walking through your shot as well bloody classic. Well done mate…

Should have let down the psi in your tires and brought the fender in…HH

  78. [..YouTube..] The video did not have too much talking. I enjoyed the travelogue. I did miss both the tea kettle and the Rover however. I hope that you find a nugget in the goldfields that challenges the springs on the Rover. Regards Hugh GL and HH
