Metal Detecting “Silverware at the Old Mill”: Garrett GTI-2500: Land Rover Defender.

This is our return hunt to the site of an 1883 Sugar Mill. We add to our finds from the predecimal ‘coin patch’, unearthing a lovely silver Sixpence and further predecimal Pennys and Halfpennys. With the total from the site now at 45 coins, rain (and long grass), finally stopped play. In addition to the coins we unearth an engineer’s steel ruler to go with the protractor/compass from the last hunt, and some more sterling silver tableware. The Mill Engineer obviously dined in style. Thanks for watching and please take the time to visit our blog www.nqexplorers.com

  1. Thanks for bringing a little history into your video. You ever wonder why so many pennies were lost? Did you ever get back to that place along the tracks? HH & Cheers…GREAT JOB!

  12. Warren and Colleen – thanks for another great video, love the history of the area and those finds. In particular I liked the scythe (If that is the correct technical term) it would be interesting to see if it would clean up but perhaps it is too far gone. That tree is most striking and has a fantastic symmetry. All the best for 2012.. I am about to head off to Victoria for 3 weeks so looking forward to doing some detecting in the goldfields! Hopefully will some interesting uploads to share!.

  17. Again!!, your vid has brightened up my friday night matey. Well done on all the interesting finds you had from that site, like the scythe blade, cool. Nice to see that beautiful tree again, it looks like it should be about 800 years old but I know it’s not!!. It’s one amazing specimen, all the same.
All best for the new year Warren!!!.
    John.

  25. [..YouTube..] Another fine hunt mate, congrats on the finds. Hope you earn your propointer privileges back, I don’t know how I ever went without one. Good job spying that home site away from the mill, good luck on the return. Wishing you and Mrs. NQE a happy and healthy new year. Best, TDNY

  26. I am a sucker for great tree’s. As a sculptor, they are marvelous, a record of time and their environment. My research and writing have to be put aside for a bit here while I do some home renovations that I have been putting off way too long. Hardwood floors with 100 years of goo to be removed and brought back to their majesty are my lot for the next few weeks! Hopefully it will not kick my arse! Enjoying your hunts! You are having some great success! Congratulations!

  33. Thanks for the kind comments Dave, looking forward to your next video hunt mate, that Hobo camp has been a fantastic spot! Happy New Year! GL and HH.

  34. [..YouTube..] Thanks for watching and commenting, you would be right, all the old mills had ‘mess halls’ or dining rooms for the workers, given the cutlery there, thats a great possiblity. Maybe they dropped all those coins trying to pay for lunch LOL. GL and HH mate.

  39. [..YouTube..] Thanks for you comments, Fluoridekid, that tree – would love to have that in my garden too LOL. There is a number of ‘wild’ peacocks in the area that roost in them at night, you can occasionally hear them in the distance, they have lived up there for years. The old tree could tell a story or two – it would have seen some coming and going in it’s time! GL and HH.

Thanks for watching DM, you have convinced me to check under that big old Raintree again, there just has to be some coins and relics lurking under there somewhere LOL. GL and HH.

  42. [..YouTube..] @Giant056
Thanks for watching Giant056, that old house location at the end looks like a great spot, surprised to stumble across it, hope to do a future hunt and video in there. GL and HH my friend.

  43. [..YouTube..] @GemQ1
Thanks GemQ, dont hit the silvers as regularly as you do mate LOL, thats why I have become so attached to the humble penny LOL. GL and HH mate. Hope you get some hunts in over the holidays.

  44. [..YouTube..] @BigbunnySSS
Thanks for watching BigBunny, those big old trees are amazing, and a great spot to cool down in the shade too. I guess winter in Florida isn’t all that bad! LOL. GL and HH.

  45. [..YouTube..] @OWN3DH34D5H0TZ
Thanks for watching – the best tip I can give you is to buy the best detector you can afford, research research research, then get out there and use it on a regular basis! GL and HH.

  46. [..YouTube..] Congratulations on the silver Varren. nice place, the earth looks fine not as dry as the other places you’ve been. It looks like it’s a place that has been much activity as there are probably more in the ground as you can find. Happy new year GL&HH

  47. [..YouTube..] I love this site and that magnificent tree. I could quite cheerfully sit in a chair and stare at it for hours on end. Wish I could fit that into my garden :) Another great video and even better watching it in full screen mode. Congratulations on all those pennies and the half penny too. That scythe is a real cool oldie, as is that fork. Thanks for showing us around, Warren, I love the narrow guage line too. May 2012 bring you even more fantastic pieces of australian history GL & HH :D

  48. [..YouTube..] Nice score on the sterling fork and all the coins you’ve pulled out. Thanks for showing us a closer look at that beautiful tree. Strange there’s no coins dropped under it. Hope the new spot produces for you also…..HH
