Metal Detecting “Silverware at the Old Mill”: Garrett GTI-2500: Land Rover Defender.

This is our return hunt to the site of an 1883 Sugar Mill. We add to our finds from the predecimal ‘coin patch’, unearthing a lovely silver Sixpence and further predecimal Pennys and Halfpennys. With the total from the site now at 45 coins, rain (and long grass), finally stopped play. In addition to the coins we unearth an engineer’s steel ruler to go with the protractor/compass from the last hunt, and some more sterling silver tableware. There is a number of ‘wild’ peacocks in the area that roost in them at night, you can occasionally hear them in the distance, they have lived up there for years. The old tree could tell a story or two – it would have seen some coming and going in it’s time! GL and HH.

In particular I liked the scythe (If that is the correct technical term) it would be interesting to see if it would clean up but perhaps it is too far gone.That tree is most striking and has a fantastic symmetry. All the best for 2012.. I am about to head off to Victoria for 3 weeks so looking forward to doing some detecting in the goldfields! Hopefully will some interesting uploads to share!.
