Metal Detecting WW2 Australian Army Identity Disc: Garrett ATPro: Land Rover Defender

We visit the site of No.16 Australian Personnel Services Camp, which existed from 1943 until 1946. The camp saw a great deal of activity as Divisional personnel were embarked for campaigns in the South West Pacific, including Kokoda, Buna/Gona, Sanananda, Salamaua, Borneo, Balikpapan and Shaggy Ridge. Featured finds are an Australian Army Major’s Rank Badge (Crown), and just as the hunt was wrapping up, the ‘dream’ find for the military relic hunter – a soldier’s “Dog Tag” (identity disc). Hope you enjoy the outing and if you have time, please visit our blog www.nqexplorers.com

  1. Thanks for watching Asorita1, you are absolutely right – gloves were in the Land Rover, should have been in use! GL and HH mate!

  2. Thanks for watching GFDigger, look forward to seeing your WW1 finds from that site, sounds like you have some great outings there! GL and HH mate.

  4. The majors badge won the dig for me… It reminded me of a WW1 British warrant officers badge I dug up at the pioneer site Melb a few weeks back. It came complete with corroded backing plate and is a wreath with the same sized crown in the middle. Great dig site you’ve got there to be hammered further by yourselves. Cheers gfdigger

Thanks for watching, appreciate your comments – there are a large number of WW2 sites in the area, but many are now private property and others have been redeveloped as housing estates so are no longer accessible. There are some sites in more remote areas that we occasionally visit – best of luck and Happy Hunting!

  8. Great major’s badge and that ID disk was so unexpected on that nearly urbanised site. I think that it’s great that you will try to return it to the family. What stories will you learn about that young digger?? Anyway, fantastic dig and GL and HH on your next digs at this site!

  14. Thanks for watching, fully agree, the ATPro is an outstanding detector for the price, just love all the functions and ease of use. Still waiting for word on the Identity Disc, will do an update video if we manage to return it to the family of the soldier concerned. Appreciate your comments! GL and HH, best of luck in 2012 with Mars Detects!

  17. Way to go mate! A Major’s Crown! That’s just top notch. What a great place to hunt, I would have thought it was picked over too. Can’t wait to see what comes of that dog tag. I hope you are able to return it. I also use an AT Pro and I love it! Just can’t beat the performance in that price range. Good luck mate! HH

    • Thanks for your comment Chris, I have started enquiries with the Australian War Memorial and the 2/16 Battalion AIF Association – will keep you posted on the outcome. GL and HH mate.

  20. Thanks for watching Doc, have used the GTI2500 for years, but the ATPro is a real ripper, the tone-roll audio in Pro mode is a real enhancement and gives you a lots of info on the target. The only Minelab coin detector I have used is the XTerra, nothing wrong with Minelabs, just have always used and preferred Garretts, couldn’t recommend the ATPro enough, plus we have an Infinium PI for the gold hunts which is great. Best of luck mate in 2012, GL and HH.

I will have to look into Garrett’s line. Keep up the great work and let 2012 be your best year ever! HH! Cheers!

  31. Your hunts just get better and better! I am surprised that Garrett has not started shipping you new models to feature in your videos yet! Soon I hope! Mrs. NQExplorer’s is not going to give up her baby that easy Warren! You may have to cash in some silver to upgrade your arsenal. Hey some really outstanding finds. Don’t you love it when the research matches and is exceeded by the finds! Great job Warren!
