We head into the deep rainforest of North Queensland on the trail of the ‘Old Timers’ who discovered alluvial gold in the area in the late 1800s. Although the stream is only known to produce fine alluvial gold, we nevertheless give the ATX a run in the fresh water fitted with the sensitive 8” monoloop coil. No targets come to light so out comes the prospecting pan and a trace of ‘colour’ shows we are in the right area. The intriguing thing about this alluvial gold is that the source has never been found – possibly an undiscovered reef upstream or perhaps the area has been isolated geologically from the source tens of thousands of years ago? In any event, a great day out in idyllic country and a good way to waste a few hours! Thanks for watching and subscribing.
